Financial Aid
FINACIAL AID POLICY AND GUIDLINES

Financial Aid Form - English
Finanicial Aid Form - Spanish

  • Program Goals
    • The goal of the Financial Aid program is to give players who would otherwise not have the resources to do so, an opportunity to play soccer and receive coaching at both the competitive and recreational levels in the Carlsbad Lightning Soccer Club.
  • Annual Financial Aid Budget
    • Prior to competitive tryouts, the board will vote on the total number of competitive and recreational financial aid awards that will be offered for the year. This number will be based on the prior years’ financial aid fundraising and the current budget.
  • Financial Aid Award Amounts
    • Recreational financial aid awards cover 100% of fees.
    • Competitive financial aid awards cover up to 50% of fees on a sliding scale and do not cover any additional expenses such as tournaments, travle or personal equipment.
      • Remaining expenses are the sole responsibility of the player and parents.
      • Team fundraising and sponsorship of these players is strongly encouraged.
  • Award Guidelines and Approval Process
    • Financial Aid is awarded on the basis of both need and availability.
    • For the competitive program, the coaching staff will assemble a list of recommended financial aid candidates and present them to the Board of Directors for approval.
    • All financial aid requests are evaluated for need before they can be approved by the Board of Directors.
    • Teams in the competitive program must have enough non-financial aid players to field a team before a financial aid player can be added.
    • The total number of financial aid awarded across the club can not exceed the annual budget as determined in (2a).
  • Financial Aid Qualification
    • Qualification in the National School Lunch Program.
    • Players must identify themselves as financial aid candidates prior to placement on a team in order to receive financial aid.
      • The only exception is if there are significant changes in the player’s ability to pay after placement on the team AND financial aid is still available.
    • A player’s parent or representative must attend a financial aid orientation meeting to go over their responsibilities as scholarship recipients.
      • At the meeting, financial aid players participating in the competitive program receive a financial aid ‘packet’ that will include monthly payment coupons.
      • Attendance at the meeting qualifies as one (1) hour of credit towards the player’s volunteer obligation (5g).
    • Player’s parents must abide by the payment guidelines set forth in the Carlsbad Lightning payment policies and procedures.
    • Player’s with outstanding balances from a previous year may not be eligible unless approved by the Board of Directors.
    • The player and his parents must make every effort to be responsible and committed team players.
    • Financial Aid players must commit to 10 volunteer hours to the club for consideration of future financial aid.
